The last LightSPEC West, held in September 2022, was seen by some industry insiders as a reiteration of the IESLA Product Show that occurs at the same location every February. Projects involve teams of four or five engineering, computer science, or technology students; a faculty advisor; and a technical liaison from the sponsoring company, working collaboratively for a full academic year.
